First Radio Broadcasting

The first radio in Georgia began operating on May 21st. The first test broadcast featured news and songs. This was the first mass medium for information distribution.

1956
Beginning of the Television Era

Mass media began spreading through television. However, during the Soviet period, media was completely controlled by the state and used for propaganda.

2000s
Internet Introduction

2005 Only 6% of the population used the internet.
2011 Mass consumption of digital media begins, online newspapers emerge (e.g., Netgazeti) and social networks appear.
